Rachael Shields and James Samana are Australian artists whose work emerges from a shared belief that creativity is one of the ways human being make sense of the world.
Working across painting, sculpture, carving, photography, and writing, their practices explore themes of identity, transformation, suffering, resilience, mythology, nature, and belonging. While their mediums differ, both artists are drawn to the questions that sit beneath everyday life: Who are we becoming? How do we live with loss? What gives life meaning? How do we find beauty amidst difficulty?
Many of the works in this gallery arise from personal experiences, yet reach toward universal human stories. Paintings, carvings , and objects become vehicles for exploring emotional truths that are often difficult to express in words alone.
Created from a home studio and workshop, the collection reflects years of artistic practice, conversations, and mutual influence. Together, Shields and Samana approach art not simply as a means of expression, but as a way of paying attention… to the world, to one another… and to the deeper currents that shape a human life.
