This is one room within a larger virtual gallery created by the married artists Rachael Shields and James Samana.
Through painting, sculpture, words, carving and photography, they explore the questions, struggles, joys and mysteries that accompany being human. Art has become both a way of understanding experience and a way of remaining in conversation with it.
This collection is about the things that stay with us.
A memory.
A conversation.
A gift.
A place.
A person.
The works gathered here emerged from a shared life of making, noticing, remembering and loving. Some began as ordinary moments. Others were created for one another, inspired by people we cherish, or shaped by experiences that became part of who we are.
Taken together, they explore a simple idea:
That art does not remove suffering.
It helps us carry what matters.
It allows us to hold onto moments that might otherwise fade, and to remain in conversation with the people, places and stories that helped make us who we are.
As you move through these rooms, we invite you to consider the things you carry, the people who helped place them there, and the ways that beauty, memory and love continue to accompany us long after the moment itself has passed.
