What Should Every Child Inherit?
Every child, everywhere, should inherit the real capability to live a healthy, educated, safe, purposeful, and ecologically sustainable life, regardless of birthplace, family wealth, gender, race, disability, social status, identity, or circumstance.
Every generation inherits a world built by people it will never know. We inherit knowledge, institutions, culture, infrastructure, and ways of caring and cooperating. We also inherit inequality, exclusion, violence, institutional failure, and ecological damage.
The Inheritance Mission asks what our generation should preserve, what we should repair, what we should add, and what every child should be able to inherit by 2040.
About the Essay
A shared destination, not a single system
This founding essay examines whether the mission is technically possible, why existing knowledge and resources have not yet produced universal foundations, and what credible progress toward 2040 could require.
It does not propose that every society adopt the same institutions, economic arrangements, or cultural practices. It argues for a common human destination, pursued through plural and locally legitimate pathways.
The essay considers public capacity, community-controlled institutions, taxation and debt, political and economic power, ecological limits, cultural authority, and the role that governments, communities, workers, enterprises, and individuals can each play.
